Gando, Sabtenga, and Soumagou (Centre-Est, Burkina Faso)
01 November 2020 - 30 March 2021
Appropriate hygiene and sanitation practices are essential in both community- and healthcare-settings to protect public health. This is especially the case in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic given that appropriate hygiene and sanitation practices are among the most effective tools to prevent the spread of the virus. In the village of Gando and the health centers of Sabtenga and Soumagou (Burkina Faso), limited access to safe water and insufficient hygiene awareness remain critical challenges to establishing hygiene and sanitation capacity. As a result, there is a critical need for immediate investment in safe water access and promotion of appropriate hygiene practices in Gando and the Sabtenga and Soumagou health centers.
The present activity aims to increase community preparedness to protect public health in the village of Gando and the health centers of Sabtenga and Soumagou by a) reinforcing safe water access and b) increasing the wide-spread employment of appropriate hygiene practices.
