are without access to clean, safe drinking water

are without access to improved sanitation facilities
Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia continue to be disproportionately burdened with this lack of capacity. Lack of clean water and adequate sanitation is responsible for high rates of water-borne disease, for nearly 1 000 children die each day from preventable water and sanitation related diseases.
