come for the fun; stay for the cause
come for the fun; stay for the cause
A Happy Hour for Water is a casual, charitable, social event meant to engage you, and your friends and colleagues in a problem that may seem distant from your reality: lack of access to safe water. Though distant, today, 780 million people around the world are without access to this essential resource. That’s over two times the population of the United States.
Taking the form of a happy hour, the event is an accessible, fun way to both educate people about the water problems facing the world and to raise money to support efforts to combat them.
Initiative: Eau is organizing the “Happy Hour for Water” series around the globe, with the objective to necessary funds for Initiative: Eau’s disaster relief efforts in Niamey, Niger.
Take a look at the map to see where and when each happy hour is happening. Want to organize one in your city? Check out the "Want to host?" section below.
Each year, Niamey, the capital of Niger, is affected by severe flooding caused by torrential rains and poorly equipped flood management systems. This flooding destroys drinking water networks and contaminates vital water sources, leaving citizens without access to safe drinking water. With a population of 1.3 million, the number of people affected in the city is significant. Over 50 881 individuals as of 11 September 2017 have been displaced due to the severe flooding in the city.
On site, Initiative: Eau conducts water infrastructure assessments and water quality analysis to direct disaster responders to the areas in greatest need. In doing so, Initiative: Eau ensures that available financial and human resources have the maximum impact possible.
We want to make this as simple as possible for those interested in supporting our disaster relief work in Niamey, Niger. So, we've assembled an organizer's pack with templates, photos, and a how-to manual to guide you through the process.
